Logo Design: from logo concept to corporate image, with branding built around clarity and recognition.

Useful definitions

Logo or Logotype

A logo or logotype is a distinctive visual identifier: a stylised name, symbol or combination of elements used to identify an organisation, product or service. It appears across communications, products, stationery, environments and digital touchpoints. It is not the same as a brand, which is the wider set of meanings and experiences associated with an offer. A good logo must be recognisable, relevant and readable in the contexts where people will encounter it.

Mark

A mark is a visual sign used with—or sometimes instead of—a logotype. It can combine letters, numbers, abstract or pictorial elements, colour and shape to support a company’s corporate image and brand image. In some contexts, a mark can also be sonic: a recognisable sound associated with a brand.

Commissioning a logo often starts with a broad request rather than a finished brief. The role of the designer is therefore not simply to make something attractive within a budget. It is to translate a business, audience and positioning into an identity that is usable, distinctive and coherent across its real-world applications.

Craft, Structure and Originality

Digital tools are essential, but they do not replace the thinking behind a mark. Research, competitor observation, target understanding, symbolism, geometry, spacing, typographic balance and technical execution all help turn an early concept into a durable identity system.

Hand drawing is not mandatory for every project, yet it remains valuable where a custom letterform or original element adds meaning. A sketch can become the starting point for carefully built vector artwork, producing a logotype that is not limited to an existing font or a generic visual shortcut.

Strong logo design combines analysis, creative intuition and precise construction.

The aim is not visual complexity. It is a mark that fits the brand’s character, speaks to the intended audience and works clearly wherever people meet it—from a small digital icon to a sign, menu, brochure, product, uniform or presentation.
